Cook’s House commits to preparing Green Plate Special
Eric Patterson and Jennifer Blakeslee co-owner/chefs of the Cook’s House on Wellington Street in Traverse City represent the first restaurant to commit to the summer 2011 Green Plate Challenge.
Welcome to Wild Leek ProductionsSM.

Wild Leek Productions will produce its second The Green Plate ChallengeSM this summer of 2011. We had a successful test run of the Challenge last summer in Benzie county and we have decided to expand it into Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties this summer.
The Green Plate Challenge is a challenge that area restaurants accept committing themselves to presenting a Green Plate SpecialSM all summer long. By weight, a Green Plate SpecialSM must be 90% locally sourced ingredients. In this case locally sourced ingredients means that they were acquired within the State of Michigan.
As the producer and promoter of the Challenge, Wild Leek Productions and its media sponsor advertise, promote and report on those restaurants who have taken this noble challenge. Stories may spot light individual chefs, farmers, the community, etc. Some will cover the impact that the challenge has on our local food economy, our environmental, our community impact, etc.
The community supports the participating restaurants by ordering the Green Plate Special and then Rating the Plates on a scale of 1-5 for their presentation, taste and originality. Each week the ratings are posted to Wild Leek’s website and to a prominent weekly publication. At the end of the season, the restaurants with the highest average ratings are recognized.
We are currently recruiting restaurants to take the challenge in Benzie, Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties. If you would like to nominate a restaurant to participate please send an e-mail to Jim@WildLeek.org and let us know who you suggest. If you would like to sponsor the Green Plate Challenge, please feel free to connect with us using the same e-mail address. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to another great summer production.
